Question from customer: Now that it's October, we are probably not going to be swimming very much if at all any longer (water is getting too cold) - so can we go to 2x/mo service? Answer: Typically when the temperatures dip and stay below 70 degrees is when i transition if at all. Remember the trees have not yet shed their leaves so if I were to come 2x / month you would have leaves and debris from the fall leaves and fall storm debris sitting on your plaster and staining it. I usually transition the end of Oct beginning of Nov. then start up April 1st of the following year with a filter cleaning etc...

Question from customer: Will the pool cleaning/filtering equipment continue to utilize as much power throughout winter as it has been? Our electric bill was over $800 last month & I'm assuming the pool is a large % of that. OBPS Answer: Your pool equipment will use about $35.00 to $50.00 per month to run. Remember we have had the hottest summer on record so the $800.00 was par for the course, my personal electric bill last month was $563.00 for a 2500Sqft home so the A/C is t...o blame. As the temperature starts to dip down we can turn your equipments run time down. *note* My rule of thumb for filtering water is whatever the ambient temp is, that is the amount of hours you run your pool. Example 80 deg. = 8 hrs, 90deg. = 9 hrs and so on up to 102 at 12hr. After 12 hours you have filtered the water as much as it can filter for the day and you are wasting your electricity. The converse applies to lower temps; you should not run your pool less than 4 hours per day. Remember, without filtration your pool is essentially stagnant water and thus a breeding ground for germs and bacteria. (Even in freezing water, less likely, but still plausible). For freezing temps (below 32 deg.) the equipment will run 24 hours to prevent pipe damage. So in the winter if you hear your equipment running day or night, don’t turn it off as it is protecting itself from freezing. See more
