This is heartbreaking. These statistics mean that we have lost more than one child per week so far this year. Every week a child has drowned?! Think about that. Make sure your barriers of protection are in place: locks, alarms, pool fences, closed doggie doors and survival swim lessons.

One of the many reasons that childhood water safety training is so important. We've been seeing and sharing more and more stories from around the country showin...g that childhood drownings are on the rise during this COVID-19 pandemic. Children learning from home and adults working from home has increased the amount of time children are at home while increasing the number of distractions for parents. Even before the pandemic, 65% of incidents involving the submersion of a child happened in a pool owned by the child's family. Drowning happens at home and pools aren't the only danger. Children can drown in less than two inches of water and have even drowned in pets' water dishes. Please remain vigilant and aware of the water-related dangers in your own home. Together, we can save lives.

These videos (as funny as they are) prove that even the best parents have a moment when they don't have their eyes on their children. During that time your child could fall into your pool! Drowning is the #1 cause of accidental death in children 1-4 years old. Drowning is also the #2 cause of death in children up to 15 years old. Despite these s...hocking statistics, 58% of parents do not consider drowning a threat to their children, according to the Safe Kids Coalition. Float 4 Life and Josh the Otter are nonprofit programs designed to educate children and their parents about water safety and drowning prevention. Through education and awareness, we are saving lives.
