Sometimes swimmers just need a little extra one-on-one time with their teacher to make significant progress #FOSSible. When Araybia, this week's #FeaturedFOSSswimmer, switched to private classes with Teacher Maiya, she quickly mastered all Little 1 progressions in just 5 weeks! Here's what her teacher had to say: "Araybia Is now confident in swimming with eyes in doing tiger paddles and kicks on a noodle and even races teacher Maiya to the island. We are so proud of her prog...ress with falling in all by herself during Humpty dumpties and love hearing her sing her favorite songs to us during back floats! We also love seeing mom and nana cheer her on throughout the whole class." Way to go, Araybia!

Teacher Derek from our Woodbury, MN, school knows what overcoming challenges is all about. Born with muscular hypotonia, he spent lots of time in physical and occupational therapy, but that never stopped him from loving water! Growing up, he swam at camps, the neighborhood pool and in the ocean. And now he's a swim teacher! Read more about this week's #FeaturedFOSSswimmer on the blog: https://bit.ly/3jhdynw

Helping people be safer around water is the foundation of our swim education, but safety also extends to the experience in our schools and doing all we can to promote physical health and wellness. Our state-of-the-art air filtration is a big, but underappreciated, part of that. Attention has never been higher on the importance of fresh air and at FOSS schools, by design, we have a constant flow of fresh air. Go behind the scenes with us as we explore our air filtration system over on the blog:

As a swim school, we know that communication is the key to effective learning. That's why we were thrilled to hear from a parent who told us how a teacher's communication skills are helping her swimmer's progress. "Just wanted to reach out and say how great of a job Ellie is doing with our son. She does an excellent job of communicating to both our son and other kids along with the parents." Way to go, Teacher Ellie!

Meet Maddie, a new teacher at our Sun Prairie, WI school. Maddie loves helping kids increase their confidence in the water, and thinks the most rewarding part of her job is when swimmers reach their goals! Read more about this week's #FacesofFOSS feature here: https://bit.ly/37Db0O6

"How long is it going to take for my child to learn to swim?" This is one of the most common questions parents askand one whose answer is specific to each student. While it can be hard to give a definite answer, there are key influences on how fast a child can learn swimming and we're sharing them on the blog:

At #FossSwimSchool, we know that each student’s path is their own, based on their unique abilities and age. For Addy, this week's #FeaturedFOSSswimmer, that means going at her own pace in her private lessons. Here's what Addy's mom had to say: "Today Addy put her face in the water...both eyes, which has taken a while to do. Alexa is the absolute best teacher and Addy loves her so much. Addy walked out of class with her goggles in-hand and proudly showed them to her big sister... and dad when she got home. Thank you, Teacher Alexa, for all you do and taking things at Addy's pace." Great work, Addy!

Tessa and Taylor, this week's #FeaturedFOSSswimmers, are making swimming with dolphins #FOSSible. Here's what their instructor had to say: "Tessa and Taylor have come so far! They have gone from fearful Little 2's to absolute fishes in Middle 2 and Middle 3. Learning to swim independently has had great rewards for the girls and their familyit meant they could swim with dolphins on a family vacation!" We can't wait to see how far you go, Tessa and Taylor!

Close your eyes and think back to the best teacher you ever had. They probably broke down each skill you were trying to learn into manageable parts, whether it was long division, how to write a great essay, or scientific research. Your teacher probably had high expectations of you, but was there to encourage and cheer you on every step of the way. They probably cultivated a classroom setting where every student felt involved and included. ... Shouldn't swim lessons be structured the exact same way?
