Wow time flies! On this Day 5 years ago, Swalings and the Sandals Foundation teamed up to offer 15 full football scholarships to children here in Antigua. The c...hildren who were awarded the scholarships were aged between 11-15 years. Some have been with us from year one whilst others have out grown the programme and gone off to college, new team mates have then joined in their place. The programme has given so much to the children on and off the field. Some have reached such heights as representing Antigua Football at youth level on the field and others on the sand at the Commonwealth Youth Beach football tournament wearing their country’s flag. The boys and girls have gone on to do amazing things off the field too. Some have be awarded scholarships abroad to study whilst still playing the sport they love. And locally we’ve had Teen Pageant Queen’s, representing their Schools and Swalings proudly. Thank you Sandals Foundation and the Swalings coaches who have helped shape these young children to live a better life to day and help them have a bright future ahead of them. On the 11 day of Christmas Swalings gave to me.. 1 week countdown to the Swalings party...at the Swalings Playlist. That’s right. The best Christmas Camp will be in full swing from Monday 17th. We will be hiking, swimming, playing football, cricket, visiting the fire station, Betty’s Hope and so much more. ... With a brand new central location, right in the heart of St Johns and a big open field for free play your child will be on the go none stop. The day kicks off from 9am and runs until 430pm. When boys become men. Dequan joined Swalings 9 years ago! Wow. He learnt to swim with us on one of the Swalings full scholarships. With our help and guidance h...e went from a non swimmer to representing Swalings at Swim Meets in just 2 years! His hard work and determination to learn to swim paid off. But his success story doesn’t finish there. He went on to work for us for over 7 years as a fully qualified lifeguard, swimming instructor and first aid trained camp leader. All the qualifications were an extension of his Scholarship with Swalings. After leaving Ottos Comprehensive Daquan worked for us full time in the office, overseeing the swimming programme and the Swalings Playlist. 2 years ago Dequan told us he was leaving Antigua and heading to the states to further his eduction, although this was a very sad day for us we were ecstatic for him. He was going to further his education and become an even more awesome young man than he already was. Every year, and we love Dequan even more for this, he comes back during the summer and slots right back in as a swimming instructor and camp leader. Both the Swalings Team and the kids in the programmes love having him back. We love catching up with his progress and this year is no exception. We are so proud of you Dequan and are thrilled to have you working with us again this summer.
