Look at Caleb go! What a rockstar!

Difficult to watch- but this is REAL LIFE! This was posted on our ISR instructor's page...the mom with the two kids was taking videos of their ISR skills...and look what was happening right next to them?? This child (who is fine, by the way) had just exited the pool a few minutes earlier wearing a puddle jumper and "snuck" back into the water without his mom knowing. I speak with so many parents weekly who say "trust me, my child KNOWS not to go into the water without me or ...their floaties." C'mon peeps...let's be real! Kids will be kids and will experiement and push limits because...THEY'RE CHILDREN! This little dude thought he could get air (in a vertical position) because that is how he has always "swam" in the pool. He doesn't realize that the puddle jumper is what is keeping him afloat when he's in the water. So, he has a false sense of security and re enters the water without his flotation device...and this is what you get. Contact your nearest ISR instructor and get your child skilled TODAY! It CAN happen to you! www.infantswim.com.

One of the sad realities of being an ISR Instructor is hearing the constant stories of child drownings. Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children under 5. At most pool parties, people have a tendency to think everyone is watching the kids...and therein lies the problem. Designate a pool watcher, whose only responsibility is to watch the kids in the pool without any distractions (no phone, no talking, etc). Take turns frequently so there isn't a temptati...on to look away. Also, please consider this, if your child is playing in the pool with a floatie, in armbands, a lifejacket or a puddle jumper, they WILL NOT understand that are unable to swim. They will go into the pool without the floatation device the same way they did so many times before. It can happen in seconds. This is a story we hear over and over again. Watch them. Put as many barriers as possible between them and the pool and teach them ISR Self-Rescue skills to give them their best chance in case all of that fails. \
